In a small way APOLOGY FOR THE MALE GAZE (2022) was part of my continuing interest in the way masculinity is represented within fine art and contemporary society.

 

The series consists of 31 images specifically exploring the male gaze and the notion that in much of the history of art, women have been presented as passive and often nude, while men have generally played the more active roles and kept their clothes on. By reversing these elements and putting myself in the more vulnerable role I am drawing attention to the strangeness of the phenomenon.
